It's been a month! Time to share a little about my 1st backpacking trip! =]
Last month today, we were heading to MAMMOTH!!!! And ready to stay away from the city!
Master Ken has got us well prepared, each of our backpacks were weighted 30-35lbs. Imagine carrying those and climbing up the mountain for 7 hours...LOL sounds impossible right?
We planned to stay at Beck Lake, which is about 8.2 miles away from Devils Postpile Ranger Station, and up on 9,803 ft (~2,303 ft elevation gain). And then head to Fern Lake from Beck Lake (mostly down hill), which is around 4 miles away and on the way back to the trailhead. So, the 1st day was the toughest.
Half of the group,4 of us, are first-time backpackers (including myself). We were all so satisfied when we got to the Superior Lake. After spending quite some time taking pictures! HAHAH.. we continued on to our destination: Beck Lake. It was the last 1.5 miles of the day; yet, the most memorable of the trip!
Nothing could stop us!!!! However, it was getting dark when we finally arrived at Beck Lake! We started setting up tents, prepared for dinner, got water from the lake. I got so excited for spending my first night in the wild (This was my first camping experience too!). All the crazy hike was worth when you see these fantastic views!
I couldn't fall asleep at all for the first night. I was worrying about what was going on outside the tent, thinking some kind of wild animal would come steal our food or even attack us. LOL! Ended up I was being silly....it was the wind.....=.="
Hike for second day was much easier. We got to Fern Lake early and had some time to relax before dinner. We all decide to go to the lake, and some of us even jumped into it. The water was freezing cold!
Two night was definitely not enough. Woke up early and headed back to Devils Postpile trailhead. Had to say goodbye to all these beautiful lakes!!!!!!! =[
This was absolutely a great experience. I would recommend all of you to at least go on a backpacking trip once in your life! Not only we get to appreciate mother nature, we also learn to value life differently! You won't know until you really experience it! =P
